Welcome to Four Rivers

Recipient of the 2015 Exemplary Reading Program Award from the Oregon Reading Association and International Literacy Association!

Mission

Four Rivers Community School is dedicated to providing progressive dual-language instruction and whole family education.  Our students and staff demonstrate pride, purpose and performance through everyday classroom activities and community involvement.  We embrace diversity and cultural appreciation through instruction and practice.

Vision

To build generations of bi-literate and culturally engaged learners who envision a future of possibilities.

The School

Four Rivers Community School, FRCS, opened in the fall of 2003 with kindergarten and first grade.  Currently the school educates 250 students in grades K-8.   As a two-way dual-language immersion program, our students spend one week in full Spanish immersion and one week in full English immersion. All of the academic areas are taught through each language without translation. Typically, by the time students spend 5-7 years in a two-way immersion program they are fully bi-literate (reading, writing, and speaking in both languages.)  Through our program, FRCS 8th grade graduates earn 12-24 nationally recognized college credits in Spanish as well as meet their high school foreign language requirements.

Family Involvement

As our mission statement indicates, Four Rivers Community School has a strong emphasis on whole family education.  Our school provides multiple opportunities throughout the year for parents to participate in their child's education as well as attend workshops to enrich the important learning that takes place at home.  We have many parents that serve as volunteers in their child's classroom and on school committees that meet during the school year.
